Wigtownshire is a historic county at the southwestern tip of Scotland, facing the Irish Sea to the south and the North Channel to the west. Known for its coastal scenery, ferry links to Northern Ireland, and the town of Wigtown, which is Scotland's national book town. Historically the western part of the ancient Kingdom of Galloway, it features the peninsulas of The Rhinns of Galloway and The Machars, significant coastline, and historical sites like Whithorn.
